Stitch of the Week: Box Stitch

March 23rd, 2017

Hey knitters,

Here is a pattern stitch that is great to use for knitting scarves, washcloths, blanket or even pillows cases. This is a knit and purl pattern stitch that is similar to the seed stitch. However, it is performed in a 2 x 2 pattern stitch instead of a 1 x 1 pattern stitch.

The result, in turn, is a checked pattern that produces a thick textured article of clothing. Try knitting the box stitch; I think you will enjoy this amazing pattern technique.

Pattern Instructions

Cast on multiples of 4 stitches plus 2 extra stitches. Work a 4 x4 swatch gauge before knitting your garment.

  • Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.
  • Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
  • Row 3: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
  • Row 4: K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Repeat rows 1 – 4 until you have reached your desired length.
