Turtleback Sweater/Jacket

Postby Getting Old » Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi : I am new to this board, and hoping I posted it to the right page, getting back to knitting after many of years and I need your help if you look at this pattern http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/rena_venus/rena.html
it states 'ONE SIZE FITS ALL" but it also says to use SOFTY YARN (which has been discontinued,) would like to try it in worsted (would this work) now this is what I do not understand, finished measurement 50" from cuff to cuff, If I do a swatch in pattern 4x4 how can I tell if it will be 50" (I used to be able to do these things(math) but when you reach my age the BRAIN just stops working :(

Also look at this one, the last one on the page http://manyhorsesmane.wordpress.com/200 ... r-to-knit/
Does any one know if this can be made in long sleeves

If you notice on both of them the schematics are different the way they are folded

Sorry for the long post, but couldn't think of a way to shorten it.
Hoping someone can help me.

Hi there GO ...welcome.
I can`t see why the Berroco pattern cannot be knitted in DK weight wool.
Change your needles to 4mm (us.6 )...and follow the wool band swatch for calculations.
Remember 50" will be your length as you are knitting and 22" will be your cast-on width..... as you rotate and fold the finished item upon completion to sew up.
For example if DK wool is 22sts per 4"..then you will need to cast-on 121 st for 22" .
The other shrug could either have sleeves added seperately to the main body after knitting it.... or increase your stitches in the centre of your rectangle...in the sleeve position.... before finishing and folding.
Hope this makes sense to you..its quite difficult to explain without the full patterns etc.

Thanks Fibreshck, for the info, and sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I ended up doing the first one I sent you ( the one without the shawl collar) on a size 11 needle, gauge came out just about perfect, did a few rows and since my needles were the long one's, and getting in my way, I bought a circular needle.
have about 7" inches done.

Thanks again :D

Hi getting older....good for you to just go for it!!!!!!
You sound as if you have it all under control.
Both of the patterns look great and i am tempted to try the Berroco one myself!!!!!
Good luck with your projects...we would love to see them when you have finished.
