Swirl Hat Knitting Pattern

This hat is knit from top downwards. It can be worn with the right or wrongs side outwards, and you can put the rib edging upwards or downwards over your ears when it is really cold.

Finished measurements:
Circumference (tense): 54 to 60 cm
Length: 24 cm (or desired length)

Material:
Approx. 45 grams Sock yarn 6-ply,390m/150grams oder approx. 110 m selfspun wool or matching for needle size 4 mm
1 set double pointed needles 4 mm

Gauge: 22 stitches and 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm

Instructions:
Cast on: Make a loop with the thread. Pick up 9 stitches around this loop, alternating from front side to back side, 3 stitches on each needle. Knit one round

Thereafter:
R1: *YO, k1* (9 times) = 18 stitches
R2 and all even rows: knit
R3: *1YO, k2tog* (9 times) = 18 stitches
R5: *1YO, k1* (18 times) = 36 stitches
R7: *1YO, k2tog * (18 times)
R9: *1YO, k2tog * (18 times)
R11: *1YO, k2tog * (18 times)
R13: *1YO, k2tog * (18 times)
R15.: *YO, k the second stitch on the left needle, k the first stitch on the left needle, then let both slide from the left needle, k1* (18 times) = 54 stitches
R17: *1YO, k2tog, k1*
R18: knit
Repeat row 17 and 18 two more times.
R23.: *YO, k the second stitch on the left needle, k the first stitch on the left needle, then let both slide from the left needle, k2* (18 times) = 72 stitches
R25: *1YO, k2tog, k 2*
R26: knit
Repeat row 25 and 26 tsix more times.
R39.: *YO, k the second stitch on the left needle, k the first stitch on the left needle, then let both slide from the left needle, k3* (18 times) = 90 stitches
R41: *1YO, k2tog, k 3*
R42: knit
Repeat row 41 and 42 until hat measures 22 cm (about 70 rows in total) or you have reached desired length. Then add 2 cm (6 to 7 rows) of rib pattern as follows:
*p1, k1, p2, k1* (18 times)
Bind of as follows:
Knotty –bind off – pattern: * k2tog, place thread in front of the left needle, slip the new stitch back onto the left needle with the thread still in front, place thread behind the left needle*

Finishing:
Carefully draw loop from the start tight, weave in ends, block if necessary.
